As some of you may know I teach in a local college on the Creative Media Production course. The start of an academic year is always a busy time. Of course this academic year had the added extra of a global pandemic to think of. With this being the case, there was a need to rethink or rehash some of the usual projects we do. Music Video production is one of projects we run and I thought this year to try and minimise the risk to students going out on location I would give them some experience filming and directing a live lounge session.
I got my old buddy Sam to come in (who I play bass for in Morris and the Dancers) to come down and do an acoustic performance whilst the students filmed it.
This was also an opportunity for me to flex my recording muscles and produce a quick mix for the students to use for editing practice. You can hear the results below: I used predominantly the Focusrite Red Collection for EQ and Compression and a Softube reverb to give it some space.
The song was recorded using an SM58 on the guitar and a RODE NTA-1 on the vocals, predominantly you can hear the results of the RODE mic with some support from the SHURE.
