Seems that everybody is getting their creative caps on during lockdown, I have seen and follow some great communities which share and post things and it is great to see so many people doing things to keep themselves occupied even if it is just for a little while.
During the last major lockdown the UK had I was so far out of my comfort zone; from adjusting to being at home all day, not seeing friends and family, not going into work, trying to do my job online and also finishing my studies it meant free time was spent trying to destress in front of countless Netflix boxsets and stuff like that.
This time round I feel a little more prepared and I suppose comfortable working from home; having a slightly better understanding of the situation means I am managing things a lot better than last time.
This has meant that I have tried to be more productive in things I enjoy, so over the past couple of weeks I wrote, recorded, programmed and mixed a song for something I have wanted to do for a long time.
I have been a fan of Post-rock and instrumental music for a while now, typical bands like Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky and newer groups like Coldbones have all featured heavily in my listening over the past few months. So I decided to have a go at finally writing some of my own.
The idea came from a simple guitar riff I had, using the sounds you would expect in such music (delay, reverb etc) I recorded everything apart from the drums (Focusrite sample pack). I used Landlord Pedals to create the initial sounds going into my interface before messing with Izotope elements plug-ins and the free Valhalla “SuperMassive” to give it loads of reverb. I DI’d the bass through my interface and used the (currently free) Ampeg SVT-VRClassic from Plugin-Alliance to give it some tone.
It’s not perfect, and it is really my first solo effort doing something like this so feedback is more than welcome. Hope you enjoy, more to come!
